Zimbabwean born and raised Watermeyer (1991) is a multimedia artist. Bachelor of Fine Art from Rhodes University, Grahamstown (2014) specialising in Digital Art, allowed Watermeyer the freedom to explore experimental, sound and site specific art. Language of Trees (2014), Watermeyer’s honours exhibition, showed a sound walk installation in the Makana Botanical Gardens, where the viewer could interact with different trees.

Watermeyer has been travelling and painting decor for the last years, beginning by a collaboration with the artist Carin Dickson (Artescape) and continuing with managing decor productions and heading scenic painting for Wanderzirkus. Co-creation of stage concepts/designs of stages for large electronic festivals such as Fusion (Palapa).

Watermeyer does not just collaborate to make other artists and designers’ ideas come to life, but also encourages individuals to work together to create some beautiful experiences. The Skeleton Leaf of Change is a land art installation that Watermeyer directed at Afrikaburn, Working Title (2018). A nature art sculpture that stood as part of the Tankwa Artscape land art sculpture garden in the Tankwa Karoo desert. The project burnt at AfrikaBurn 2019. Watermeyer has been involved in the AfrikaBurn art installations since 2015, with an inspired sense of the “blank canvas” and an unconventional way of collaborative creativity that the festival’s principles advocate.

Watermeyer’s visual art is limited but has a specific sense of surreal style and focus on geometry in nature which highlights the sense of space and experience that Kiara constructs in all projects.
