PALAPA by wanderzirkus
Palapa meaning process, a urban downtown city of the future set up for the main stage at Fusion festival in Germany (2018). Created by the innovative collective Wanderzikus, this stage and floor environment grew out of organised planning, design and creative thought, a dynamic process. Months of planning but only 3 weeks of construction with a team of 30. Carpenters, designers, architects, artists, engineers, electricians, stage builders, set painters, graffiti artists, linguist, makers, and doers of all forms, a very skilled Palapa civilisation.
The whole foundation of the stage is assembled out of wood holding a the facade that were to be painted by myself and team of 8 talented artist form all over the world. Leading the paint on this job was a rewarding challenge for me and the paint crew. Having just 2 weeks to paint the painters did not stop to paint the 37 buildings of the stage, the light towers, the outside turbine facade, the fence, a car, signs and smaller projects on the floor. We were after all creating an immersive experience.
The Palalpa facade holds attention to detail of perfection. This collaboration brings another level of festival stages, where paint and wood are achieved to their highest expectation. The floor itself was created around concept and thought, producing my favorite detail, the floor had it's very own language!
I look forward to next years edition of Palapa and to see what boundaries of paint affect and set building that will form.
